Honey Bee

Honey bees are brown and black, fuzzy and collect pollen.  Their hives are in enclosed spaces so that they can protect their honey.

Wasps are hairless and do not collect pollen.  They are omnivores (eat meat and sweets) and nest in paper balls, in the ground, or in walls or attics.

Known as the big fuzzy bee, bumble bees do collect pollen.  Their nests are small and can be in the ground or in walls.  They have a very docile and gentle nature.

Below is a list of beekeepers in Ontario (listed by County ) that collect honey bee swarms or do hive removals.  Read carefully as not all beekeepers will remove hives from inside walls or inside trees.  Relax -  Swarming bees are house hunting and are not harmful.  Swarming is a planned event for the bees and they know what they are doing.  For more info on why bees swarm see Swarms Explained.

There are twenty-four Bee Clubs in Ontario that represent beekeepers from all the counties. Often they can refer you to beekeepers who collect swarms in your area. The contact info is on the Ontario Bee Association's website:www.ontariobee.com/sales-and-services/got-a-swarm.

Also, check the www.ontariobeerescue.com website for lists of beekeepers who collect swarms and do hive removals.

If you are a beekeeper and would like to be added to this list send an email to barb@beemagic.com with the subject Swarm List.  It's free and beekeepers report they get lots of calls.
